Welcome to Vatsal’s Newsletter

Where does morality come from? Do we have free will? Can artificial intelligence understand the world like we do? Each week I share an essay or conversation exploring these and other big questions through a fresh, original lens.

About Me

I’m Vatsal, a philosopher and entrepreneur. I am interested in moral philosophy and epistemology and in improving our relationship with knowledge and experience.

I share philosophical essays here and host conversations with leading minds on Vatsal’s Podcast. I founded the Universal Open Textbook Initiative, building the world’s largest repository of high-quality, multilingual open textbooks. I’m also creating aestht, a social cataloging app.

About Vatsal’s Newsletter

One of my life’s missions is to ground ethics in a naturalistic foundation—making questions of right and wrong answerable through the same methods we use to understand the physical world.

I’m also deeply interested in the nature of understanding itself: how we know what we know, how intelligence emerges, and how truth is distinguished from falsehood.

I started this newsletter to expand on and publicize the ideas in these areas that I first outlined in a short book, Freedom and Morality.
